"I'm a Mac... I was a PC"
So, as I posted a while ago I've been looking for a laptop to use for making multimedia stuff that just works - no faffing, no messing, just something that would allow me to get on and do make things that I want to make.
Tried Vista - bloody awful. Not so much an Operating System, more a persistent computer-based irritation.
Found Ubuntu Studio, a Linux Distro created for multimedia creation. Took five hours to get working on my current laptop; when I got it running it turned out to be a noble effort, but clunky and awkward in the way the Linux tends to be.
After much soul-searching and seeking buying advice from Mac users at work (cheers Phil!) I finally caved in and bought a bargain high-spec refurbed Macbook online after trying one last Saturday in the Apple store in Manchester's Trafford centre. It'll be here on Thursday, and is probably going to end up going with me wherever I go for the forseeable future.
There. I've admitted it.
I'm going to be a Mac owner.
Funny how your priorities change as you get older... time was when I would build a PC from parts, spend forever fiddling with drivers, tweak it to within an inch of it's life, run a resource-intensive game and know that I had built this thing and the fact that it ran so well was my doing.
Now (and especially after losing yet another day at the weekend to Linux faffing) I just want something that works and keeps on working without me having to do very much, thank you.
Seems that if that's what you want, you buy a Mac. That's all there is to it.
